The Veep debate is over and it turned out not to be a venue suitable to the structured arguments Rep. Ryan normally makes, but rather more suited to the rude assertion of party propositions and tacit assumptions about the world.
So what did the sitting Vice President of the USA have to say? Well, on the Benghazi diplomat massacre in Libya Joe said over and over that the bogus anti-video-riot-caused-spontaneous-violence story was all the fault of a spectacular intelligence failure that apparently persisted for ten days. The tragic killing of four nearly totally unprotected and helpless Americans was not the result of State Department policy which assumes that al Qaida is crushed everywhere in the world and not to be feared even on 9/11 anniversaries.
Well, the Benghazi story is not going away and Biden's blame shifting raises the question--if CIA intelligence was so horribly bad in Libya, how can Joe have such absolute trust that the same intelligence sources will give us plenty of warning about Iran militarizing its U-235, a point old Joe made repeatedly. So what if the Holocaust-denying regime in Tehran has a bunch of weapons-grade nuclear material, says Joe, they still have to make it into a weapon and not only is that extremely difficult, this time we expect the CIA to warn us. It will not get the WMD thing wrong again like the Iraq time
Joe is wrong about several things in all that, but the revealing point is that he thinks Osama is dead and al Qaida and its school girl assassinating Taliban friends are so beaten down we can blissfully ignore the chance of either causing much trouble or especially of a new terrorist training camp being established in Afghanistan as soon as we leave in 2014.
On the Health Care Reform front, Joe reminds us that doctors, hospitals, and insurers will get massive reimbursement cuts, which is how "savings" in Medicare will be achieved. The government will hire many more lawyers and bureaucrats to run Obamacare and these folks will not be getting the draconian pay cuts. It is kind of a war of lawyers versus doctors with doctors being viewed as little more than fix-it auto mechanic types who ought to work for socialist wages, take orders from their new bureaucrat bosses, and shut up. This is going to make the medical care we all receive better?
Joe didn't actually say this--but he clearly wants you to believe this: you just gotta believe those new job creation and unemployment numbers. Don't believe your lying eyes when you look around your own neighborhood, believe those numbers!
