The choice is marvelously clear. If you look at a rich person and the appearance of he or she irks you (because you suspect that their success automatically deducted from the supply of success available and made you a failure, or you think they didn't earn it, or you admit that they did earn it but they are not paying their fair share to support society) you vote Democrat.
If you look at the same rich person and think they (or someone in their family) did earn it, that their acquisition of wealth did not handicap anyone else from succeeding, that they likely do pay far more than their fair share already, and that the middle class should shrink as people are enabled to escape into the upper class, then you should vote Republican.
If you think there are way too many people in the world already, they are making too big a mess, and the resources to sustain them are all running out anyhow, you should vote Democrat.
If you are a Republican, someone once told you that all of the 6.5 billion people or so on the planet lived in their nuclear family, and each family had an acre of land to stand on, they could all live in the state of Texas. In fact, it would be good if they did. If you are a conservative, someone once told you that in 1972 the Club of Rome predicted the world would run out of most major resources well before the turn of the century.
If you are a Democrat, the reality that kilowatts produced by solar or wind power cost at least five times equivalent electricity produced by natural gas, hydro, or nuclear doesn't matter. You reason that every form of energy somehow is so extensively subsidized that they all really cost the same. If that isn't exactly true or the math doesn't work, the rich should still make up the difference with taxes to pay for the trendy solar and wind thingies.
If you are a Republican, you think that if Romney and Ryan win maybe the stock market will boom enough that you can pull money and buy that Grand Sport 430 hp Corvette before GM folds and the 100,000 mile warranty goes away (or the guarantee is taken over by a federal bankruptcy court.)
If you are a Republican, you probably do think that abortion should be safe and legal in the case of rape or incest and you support that locally, but it doesn't bother you that stipulation is not in the national party platform. If you are a Democrat, you never met an abortion you didn't like and you refuse to consider that a fetus with a heartbeat and brain function has any rights at all.
If you are a social conservative, Tea Party type person, you are weary with all homosexual issues and you realize you just can't beat Hollywood and TV networks when it comes to shaping pop culture values, but it does still irk you that Rep. Barney Frank's new spouse (who is over 20 years younger than Frank) will likely draw the Congressman's generous U.S. pension as his survivor. We can't pay regular widows enough to get by on through social security, and we need to do that?
Whether you are Democrat or Republican, you should realize now that this budget situation is truly and fully bad enough to destroy all the good things all Americans really like about our country.
Whether you are Democrat or Republican, you understand that a really, really nasty war is only a tick away now in the Middle East. Whether you are Democrat or Republican, you wish that there was a way to stay out of it. There isn't, nor is there any way whatsoever to run away from these cataclysmic problems. Somehow we have to work together and muddle through them.
