This week President Barack Obama goes on trial in the a court of public attention like few other chief executives will ever be challenged. A fury is rising on the right, a fury not abated or ameliorated in the least by the fact that Mitt Romney is very likely going to be the next POTUS anyhow.
This is a full-volume fury, a Wagnerian chorus of cymbals and crescendoes and cannon reports, and it is largely unconnected to the election. It is its own creature.
No attachment is connected to this post leader because the instances will be everywhere on the right, they will be uncountable, and they will be giga-decibels beyond shrill. Last night Newt Gingrich kicked it off on the Huckabee show. Newt clearly has the rope, the feathers, and the tar ready, with the tar being heated to a boil.
According to the Obama administration, what happened at Benghazi was result of systemic intelligence failures and unforseeable circiumstances. The tragedy was not a blunder, but the kind of thing that must be expected to happen now and then in a dangerous world due to tight security budgets and other priorities that the State Department has for its spending (Republicans will provide man, many egregious examples of these higher spending priorities for this year.)
According to conservatives and Republicans, four very brave Americans died holding their post (after repeated desperate pleas for more security) because we have a White House obsessed with a Pollyanna view that al Qaida is non-issue in the world since Obama killed Osama and since Obama's enlightened Arab Spring policies have calmed and normalized the entire Muslim world.
The Obama White House attempted to blame an incendiary video for the whole thing for almost two weeks after the tragedy. The Obama administration blames intelligence sources for not reminding the administration of what common sense was shrieking at them: the anniversary of 9/11 was coming up and militias exist in Benghazi highly sympathetic to al Qaida and its worldly aims.
The White House desperately looks around for who to blame. Who is the Bungler of Benghazi? Is it possibly Hillary Clinton? Is it possibly the CIA or State Department intelligence?
Updates and fresh information on all these desperate claims will flood America this week, and each report will be like a barrel of gasoline thrown on a fire.
